Hot off the plein air easel...

This week, I was painting in Plein Air on the Yellowstone through the Livingston Center for Art and Culture. I was asked to do the demonstration for the group on Monday morning to kick it off.

Thirty artists participated in the event. At the beginning of the week, we all had our blank canvases stamped to verify that we started 'fresh'. Then we were sent out to paint (outside) in Park County.

I like to challenge myself as an artist, so I attempted some more difficult subjects to capture and a little larger format. I was happy with my results...

This was the week of the 'Super Moon', and here in Big Sky country is can be glorious!

Painting outside is always the adventure...curious on lookers, random wildlife, with wind and weather mixed in to boot. Here are a few of my spectators from the week...

The paintings were hung yesterday at the Livingston Center for Art & Culture (on Main Street in Livingston MT) for the "Wet Paint Show" culminating our week of Plein Air on the Yellowstone, and will be up through Sept. 13th.

Next Friday, August 22nd is the Livingston Art Walk, a good evening to view the Show, when there will be lots of other art is town to see as well. Hope you have an opportunity to stop in sometime and see our efforts from the week.

I was out and about painting, but our guests on the property mentioned that they had been enjoying watching this big horn sheep hanging out in our yard...and sleeping on our deck!... Now, that would have been fun to plein air paint!

Yes, it's summer in Montana - the season of the art shows! And we're off to exhibit our work at another venue this weekend...Saturday and Sunday August 2nd and 3rd.

We were juried into the S.L.A.M. Festival in Bozeman Montana. SLAM stands for Support Local Artists and Musicians....we like that slogan! Everyone participating in the Show is from Montana. About as "local" as it gets. Should be a fun weekend.

And, we're ready to go!...just got back from setting up our booth in Bogart Park along Church Street in Bozeman. It all kicks off at 10 AM Saturday morning. We have a good spot....under the trees and across from the stage. Hope to see you there!
