Clyde Aspevig painting demonstration

A friend, who happens to be a WONDERFUL landscape painter, will be doing a demonstration Saturday March 26th in Billings, Montana on the MSU campus in the Liberal Arts Building. It starts at 1:30pm. I've been to other demonstrations he has given - believe me, if there's anyway you can make it, be there. He's good. If you can't make it to the demonstration, be sure to make it to the Show "Montana Masters" at the Western Heritage Center in Billings. wwww.clydeaspevig.com

On The Road Again....

Some of our art set up at the Western Masters Art ShowOh, the life of an artist... We just returned from the Western Masters Art Show in Great Falls, Montana. We pack up loads of our work, set it all up there, then pack back up and head home - to unload it and set things back up at our studio and gallery. All that 'behind the scenes' work (and maybe all that extra blood pumping to my brain, since we had to set it all up on the 2nd floor!) gave me ideas. I think many people would find it interesting, possibly inspiring and other artists could relate and commiserate, and maybe we all could get a good belly laugh at times, on the 'real life' behind what you often see as our 'final product'. John's newest sculpture, that we unveiled at the Show, is a take on just that theme - "Leap Of Faith". And so, it seems a good time to take the leap. I'll post a photo of his newest piece, (after I find my camera in the moving mess!), and fill you in on the real lives of 2 artists living and working at the edge of Yellowstone National Park....

Western Masters Art Show

Both John and I were juried into the Western Masters Art Show with our painting and sculpture. It takes place March 16 - 19, 2011 in Great Falls Montana. We'll be in exhibit room #286. http://www.westernmastersartshow/

It will be a busy weekend - we have a lot of work to pack. We've created many new pieces specifically for the Show. In the past, we've done a multitude of shows, but we're particularly excited about this one. They have new faces in the management of the Show that really seem to be taking it in a great direction and doing a fine job. AND John and I both have a fresh, solid body of work we're looking forward to exhibiting. Contact us any time if you have questions. We'll hope to see you there!

Continuing Education for a painter....

I was just in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Victor, Idaho for 5 days. Although I stayed at the base of the Tetons, I didn't see the top of them once - it was that snowy. A storm blew in and closed all the roads out of the valley. The driving was brutal, to say the least. BUT, it was absolutely wonderful! I had the opportunity to take a workshop with an amazing landscape painter, Scott Christensen - 2 of us, along with his studio assistant, watched him block in several huge canvases for some new work he's beginning. We talked about his recent trip to the Zorn and Russian Museums, perused his vast art library, listened to his ideas on painting, he gave pointers and answered questions. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and being in his studio and gallery each day. He was a wonderful teacher. If you're not familiar with his work, you should be... http://www.christensenstudio.com/. I took my life in my hands and drove to the National Museum of Wildlife Art before I left. It was worth it - other than the staff, I literally had the place to myself. What a treat to be alone in the Rungius room for an entire hour! I even managed to get out and plein air paint in the snow storm while I was there. Could it get any better?? Now, with all my new motivation and ideas percolating, I can't wait to get behind the easel.....
